Two goals. Five minutes. One comeback. Watch Uche’s brace against Pumas →

Sometimes, Uchenna Kanu only needs a few minutes.

On Friday night, Cruz Azul were 2–1 down against Pumas and needed something special.

Uchenna provided it.

Coming off the bench, the Nigerian forward scored twice in just a few minutes to turn the game around and give Cruz Azul a 3–2 victory in Jornada 7 of the Liga MX Femenil Apertura 2026.

Her performance earned her Player of the Game, and Mexican media called her the “heroína” —

the heroine — of Cruz Azul's comeback.

A familiar feeling

For Uchenna, scoring more than once in a game is nothing new.

She has been producing big scoring moments throughout her career, both in Mexico and in the United States.

In 2022, while playing for Tigres, Uche made history by becoming the first foreign player to score a hat-trick in Liga MX Femenil.

She scored three times against Atlas, adding another historic moment to her growing career in Mexico.

And the goals have continued to come.

In the Clausura 2026, Uche scored 10 goals for Cruz Azul, including a hat-trick against Toluca.

Her ability to score multiple goals in a game has become one of the familiar parts of her career.

Fastest brace in NWSL history

Uche has also made history in the United States.

On March 30, 2024, while playing for Racing Louisville, she scored twice against Portland Thorns in the opening minutes of the match. Her first goal came in the third minute. Her second came in the sixth.

The two goals were only 5 minutes and 40 seconds apart, making it the fastest brace in NWSL history. The NWSL itself lists Kanu's performance as the league's fastest brace.

It is another example of what makes Uche so dangerous in front of goal: when she finds her rhythm, she can change a match very quickly.

And now, Pumas

Friday's game followed the same pattern. Cruz Azul were behind and needed a response.

Uche gave them one. Her first goal brought the game level. A few minutes later, she scored

again to put Cruz Azul ahead.

The final whistle confirmed a 3–2 comeback — and another match in which Uchenna Kanu made the difference.

This time, she did it as a substitute, scoring twice and earning Player of the Game recognition.

For Récord, she was the heroína of the night.

Another chapter in Mexico

From becoming the first foreign player to score a hat-trick in Liga MX Femenil, to setting the record for the fastest brace in NWSL history, Uche has continued to create special moments wherever she plays. Now, another brace has been added to the story.

Different teams. Different competitions. Different moments.

But the same Uchenna Kanu — finding the back of the net when her team needs her.

Two goals. A comeback. Player of the Game.

Another special night for Uche.
