There are moments in football that are difficult to put into words. This is one of them.

For Nigeria’s Super Falcons, the disappointment is difficult to ignore. A team synonymous with success on the African continent has seen its WAFCON campaign come to an

unexpected end, while the failure to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup means Nigeria will miss the tournament for the first time in its history.

It is a painful moment for a team that has carried the hopes of a nation for generations.

Yet, even in disappointment, there are individual performances that deserve recognition. For Uchenna Kanu, the tournament once again highlighted the qualities that have made her an important part of the Super Falcons attack.

Kanu brought intensity, pace and aggression to Nigeria’s frontline throughout the campaign. Her work did not begin when the ball reached her feet. She was consistently willing to press from the front, chase defenders, force mistakes and make the opposition uncomfortable. That relentless energy became one of her defining contributions to the team.

She finished the tournament with two goals, but her influence went beyond the scoresheet. Kanu repeatedly created danger through her movement, direct running and ability to attack spaces behind defensive lines. Her actions also contributed to dangerous situations inside the penalty area, including moments that resulted in penalty opportunities for Nigeria. Her willingness to keep pressing and attacking, even when the team found itself in difficult situations, reflected the competitive spirit she brought to every appearance.

Against Malawi, Kanu was again central to Nigeria’s attacking efforts, finding the net as the Super Falcons fought their way back into the contest. It was another reminder of her ability to remain a threat until the final moments.

But football is ultimately a team game, and individual contributions cannot erase the disappointment of the collective result. For the Super Falcons, this is a moment that will require reflection. The loss of the opportunity to defend their continental crown and the historic absence from the next World Cup will undoubtedly leave a lasting mark.

For Kanu, however, the tournament also represents another step in her continued growth and importance to the national team. Her pressing, movement, work rate and ability to create danger give Nigeria an attacking weapon capable of troubling defenders at the highest level.

The disappointment is real. The questions will come. But so too must come the response.

For the Super Falcons, the next chapter is about rebuilding, learning and finding the path forward. And for Uchenna Kanu, it is another chapter in a journey that continues to demand intensity, resilience and the willingness to keep fighting.
