A new chapter begins for Uchenna Kanu Football Academy as the team officially embarks on its NLO (Nigeria Nationwide League) Division Two campaign this week, marking another important milestone in the academy’s commitment to developing young footballers and creating pathways for the next generation of Nigerian talent.
The 2026 NLO Division Two season officially gets underway this week and will run through October 20, providing young players with an important competitive platform to test themselves, gain experience and continue their development in a structured football environment.
For UKFA, the journey began well before the first league game.

A Pre-Season Built for Competition
Throughout the preparation period, the academy deliberately challenged its players against strong opposition, giving the squad an opportunity to experience different levels of intensity, physicality and tactical demands before entering the league.
One of the standout moments of the pre-season was a series of matches against Akwa United, an established Uyo club with significant experience in Nigerian professional football.
The fixtures provided UKFA with exactly the kind of competitive test needed during preparation. In one of the encounters, UKFA produced an impressive 2–1 victory over Akwa United, demonstrating the quality, character and competitiveness developing within the academy. In the return fixture, Akwa United responded with a narrow 1–0 win, giving both teams valuable minutes and different challenges ahead of their respective campaigns.
For a young academy, the importance of such matches goes beyond the final score.
Facing an experienced side gives developing players the opportunity to understand what is required to compete at a higher level — from the speed of decision-making and physical demands to tactical discipline and concentration throughout the game.
From Preparation to Purpose

The pre-season experience has helped UKFA enter the NLO 2 campaign with greater confidence and, more importantly, a clearer understanding of the standards required to compete.
The academy was established with a clear vision: to nurture football talent while also
developing character, discipline and the mindset required to succeed both on and off the pitch. That philosophy remains at the heart of the project as UKFA continues to build its identity.
Every training session, friendly and competitive fixture represents another opportunity for the players to learn.
The results against Akwa United offered an encouraging indication of the progress being made, but the academy knows that the real test begins now.
The League Challenge Begins
With the NLO Division Two season now underway, attention turns fully towards competitive football.
The league will provide UKFA’s players with the opportunity to translate their preparation into meaningful performances, while gaining the experience that can help shape their development as footballers.
For the coaching staff, the objective is not simply to win matches. It is to create an environment where talented young players can develop technically, tactically, physically and mentally — while learning the values of teamwork, discipline, resilience and responsibility.
For the players, meanwhile, the message is simple: the opportunity is here, and the work continues.
The journey ahead will undoubtedly bring challenges, but the lessons of pre-season — including the valuable experience of competing against Akwa United — have prepared UKFA for the demands that lie ahead.
As the NLO 2 campaign begins, Uchenna Kanu Football Academy steps onto the competitive stage with ambition, belief and a clear purpose: to develop, to compete and to create opportunities for the next generation of football stars.
The season starts now.
We fight. We learn. We grow.
